A.M. Crawford, Inc. started in 2005

Andrea Crawford started taking on freelance grant writing projects from time-to-time while working as a nonprofit Development Director. In 2010, after the birth of her second child, Andrea transitioned to full-time remote grant writing. For several years, AMC operated as a one-person shop with Andrea writing grants from her dining room table. As referrals grew, Andrea recognized the critical need for grant writing and fundraising counsel among nonprofits of all sizes. In 2014, she wrote her first business plan, hired AMC's second employee, and opened a San Francisco office. The business grew by 60% during this period, setting the stage for its next phase.

The pivotal moment that shaped AMC into what it is today came in 2017 when Andrea met Co-Founder Valerie Mojeiko and partnered with her on a project for an up-and-coming nonprofit organization in the San Francisco Bay Area. Andrea and Valerie enjoyed working together and had a shared skill set that helped this nonprofit successfully increase their fundraising capacity so that they could make a bigger impact around the world.

Valerie had previously helped expand another early-stage nonprofit organization into a thriving international organization with over 50 team members, building strong and strategic organizational development knowledge and skills. Together, they combined Andrea's vision for building nonprofit fundraising success with Valerie's operational expertise and organizational growth experience - all critical to transforming AMC into the firm it is today.

In 2018, AMC began working with union apprenticeship programs, a focus that has become one of our greatest success stories. AMC is proud to support apprenticeship training programs in multiple states through a dedicated team of consultants, who have raised over $35 million in support of skilled trades training.

We continue to serve nonprofits of all types—educational, youth development, environmental, social services, and more—and have helped our partners raise over $95 million since our founding. For three consecutive years (2022-2024) AMC has been recognized as one of the San Francisco Business Times’ Fastest Growing Private Companies in the Bay Area.

Throughout our history and growth, AMC has remained focused on our mission of helping nonprofits succeed.

We are also committed to developing the next generation of fundraising professionals and maintaining strong referrals with former clients, staff, and contractors - relationships that continue to drive our success.
